Sophos Control Center version 4.0 release notes

New in this version

  • Device control

Device control manages the connection of unauthorized storage devices and network interfaces.

  • Application control

Application control enables you to detect and block legitimate applications that are not a security threat, but that you decide are unsuitable for use in your office environment.

  • Host Intrusion Prevention System

Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) protects computers from suspicious files, unidentified viruses, and suspicious behavior.

  • Firewall location awareness

You can configure the firewall for two different types of location. It will use different settings according to the location where computers are used, for example, in the office (on the network) and out of the office.

  • “Monitor” firewall mode

To make rule creation simpler, the firewall can be configured to allow all unknown traffic and create events.

  • Additional report types

New standard reports have been added, such as non-compliance, time-based, and summary reports. Report configuration can now be saved and scheduled so that the report output is sent to an email address at certain times. New Create Report Wizard assists with customization and scheduling of reports.

  • Additional report formats

You can now output reports from Sophos Control Center in additional formats, such as PDF, HTML, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, RTF, CSV, and XML.

Known problems

  • Computer names must use the standard ASCII 7 format to be valid in Sophos Control Center. Computers with names containing accented or non-Roman characters are not recognized.
