Sophos Mobile Encryption Version 3.0 for iOS release notes

New in this release

Key view

Sophos Mobile Encryption now shows the contents of the SME keyring. The SME keyring - when activated - automatically stores keys derived from successfully entered passphrases so that the user does not have to enter the passphrase again when decrypting a file. A list view shows a list of all user-keys in the keyring.

Internal editor for text files

Sophos Mobile Encryption allows to edit simple text files. New text files can be created, encrypted and stored to a cloud storage provider or to the local storage. Text files can be edited when the device is offline and are later synced to the cloud storage provider when the device is online again.

File and Folder operations for all storage providers
Sophos Mobile Encryption supports now following file and folder operations in all cloud storage providers and the local storage:

Due to limitations of the cloud storage providers, following restrictions apply to the file and folder operations:

Searching / Filtering of files and folders in all views
Sophos Mobile Encryption provides a standard iOS search bar by swiping down the file and folder list view. The user can instantly filter the current list displayed in the view with the terms entered in the search bar.

System Requirements

Sophos Mobile Encryption runs on the following platforms:

Compatible devices have to run iOS 6.x or iOS 7.x or Apple iOS 8.x.

Supported Storage Providers

Sophos Mobile Encryption supports following storage providers:

Installation

Installation of the application must be done via the Apple iTunes App Store.

Known Issues

Dropbox Authentication
Once successfully linked to a Dropbox account, no more password input is required to get access to the files in the linked Dropbox. Even if the password for this Dropbox account is changed on another system or via the Dropbox web site, presenting this new password is not required on any of the linked systems nor do these systems have to be linked again. In case access to the Dropbox has to be withdrawn reliably (e.g. because a mobile device is lost), the device should be un-linked from the given Dropbox account via the Dropbox web site and thus be no longer allowed to access the data.

File Sync
Files stored on the mobile device are updated automatically whenever modified in the cloud. Some file attributes like the file size and modification date are used to detect any changes. In case a previously encrypted file is encrypted using a different key, the file will not be synchronized to the client. Reason is, that the content of the file remains unchanged, as well as the file's attributes and therefore a sync is not triggered.

Copyright Text in settings seems to be editable
The UI control used for the displaying of the copyright text allows to modify / delete the copyright text currently displayed. The original copyright text is shown again when leaving the view and entering the settings view again.

Upgrading may unlink the WebDAV providers
When upgrading to the new release version, it may happen that already linked WebDAV provider are unlinked. The user has to link the WebDAV provider manually again.

Unfavorizing of favorites does only work for ten or less favorites at once

When using multi-selection and wanting to unfavorize multiple favorites at once, this currently only works for 10 favorites. When selecting more than 10 favorites only the first 10 are unfavorized - all other stay favorite. The user has to unfavorize the remaining favorites in a second try.

Saving to Google Drive without manually selecting a folder saves the file in the root folder not in the preset folder

When saving to Google and not manually selecting a folder, currently SME always saves the file in the root folder instead of the one that is preset in the encryption dialog.

A crash may occur on an iOS tablet when the user views manged SME in potrait mode and the SMC admin denies network access

When the Administrator is denying network access for a managed SME app on an iOS tablet while the user is operating the app, it may happen that the app crashes when the user is using SME in portrait mode. Going to landscape mode solves the problem.
