SafeGuard Enterprise 8.0 release notes

Sophos recommends that customers always apply the latest version and patches of SafeGuard Enterprise to ensure that they have latest in functionality, performance and security.

New in SafeGuard Enterprise Service Release 8.0.5

The Windows Client Patch 1804 addresses some security issues with SafeGuard Enterprise Client 8.0 and 8.0.4, which theoretically could be used to obtain local privilege escalations.

Additionally the following issues have been fixed:

  • In certain cases the SafeGuard Encryption Policy Wizard would not appear
  • Various hotfixes for SafeGuard file filter driver
  • Compatibility issue with current version of Sophos Endpoint Security
  • Several other smaller bug fixes

Note that this release also includes the SGN 8.0.4 Windows Client Hotfix Rollup Patch.

We recommend that you install the latest Windows security patches on your clients before installing the SafeGuard client security patch. For clients running Windows 7, you must install all Windows security patches first.

New in SafeGuard Enterprise Service Release 8.0.4

This Windows Client Hotfix Rollup Patch fixes several issues in SafeGuard Enterprise Client 8.0:

  • SafeGuard file filter driver issues resulting in BSOD or error messages when files are written.
  • SafeGuard Outlook add-in issues.
  • SafeGuard service crashes, local cache corruptions or service loading issues.
  • SafeGuard credential provider issues. For example, issues that affect users changing passwords or entering a PIN.

We've also improved SafeGuard BitLocker management.

New in SafeGuard Enterprise Service Release 8.0.3

  • macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) support

This version supports OS X 10.11, macOS 10.12, and macOS 10.13.

If you use OS X 10.10 or earlier, please install SafeGuard Enterprise 8.0.1.

New in SafeGuard Enterprise Service Release 8.0.2

Backend

The following issues have been fixed:

  • The SQL server could suffer from a serious performance degradation.
  • In rare cases, when importing more than one Active Directory domain, recovery could be impossible.
  • In certain cases certificates could not be renewed.
  • Mac OS X recovery could not be performed using web help desk.
  • Changing the logon name of an Active Directory user could lead to duplicate user objects.
  • Smaller bugs.

Other Mac OS X recovery improvements have been made.

Synchronized Encryption

SafeGuard Enterprise 8.0 introduces the new “Synchronized Encryption” module for Windows and OS X:

  • Application Based Encryption
  • HTML5 encryption of individual files (“Password protect file”)
  • Tracking of encryption and decryption events
  • Microsoft Outlook add-in (Windows only)
  • Synchronization of keyring with Sophos Mobile Control 6.1 (requires Sophos Secure Workspace 6.2 on the mobile device)
  • Synchronization of device encryption recovery keys with Sophos Mobile Control 6.1
  • Extra security by integration with Sophos Endpoint Central and Sophos Mobile Control (encryption keys can be removed on compromised machines)

  • Database creation without the need for MS SQL tools
  • Automatic database migration and schema update
  • Improved auto-registration
  • Automated initial import of AD
  • Improved security (Unconfirmed users)
